How the Service handles your information, what becomes public, and the controls available to you.
1. Information we handle
Product Updates (the “Service”) handles information needed to help people discover products and manage launches. You can browse public listings without signing in.
- Account information: when you sign in with Google, we receive account identifiers and basic profile information such as your name, email address and profile image. Sign-in records may include your IP address, browser information and session times.
- Your submissions: product descriptions, website addresses, logos, screenshots, contact email, launch preferences, product update drafts and published changes, votes and website badge verification results.
- Transactions: when paid promotion is available, order details, amount, currency, payment references, promotion dates and payment or refund status.
- Usage and security information: product views, listing clicks, outbound website clicks, promotion impressions and technical records needed to operate and protect the Service.
2. Public and private information
Published listings include the product information and media you submit for display, its website link and the publisher name associated with it. Published updates display their title, text, optional media and release link, date and vote count. Public publisher profiles show that name and publicly visible products. Only submit content you are comfortable making public.
Your account email, product contact email, private drafts and order or refund records are not displayed in public listings. They remain available to authorized people and service providers as needed to operate the Service. Public content may be indexed by search engines or copied by other visitors.
3. How information is used
We use information to authenticate accounts, save submissions, publish listings, record votes and anonymous vote-count changes used to preserve historical weekly rankings, verify website badges, manage reservations and moderation, process promotions and refunds, send service notifications, measure product discovery, and prevent misuse.
Website verification involves requesting the public website you submit. A successful badge check confirms badge presence; it does not certify product quality or ownership.
4. Cookies and first-party measurement
Sign-in uses cookies to maintain your session. Product discovery measurement uses a random identifier in browser session storage to distinguish activity within a browsing session. The server stores a pseudonymous key with the product, action, placement source and time. This measurement does not send your email, payment credentials or private product material in the event payload.
Publishers can see aggregate activity for their own products. These reports do not give publishers visitor account identities. You can clear cookies and site storage in your browser; blocking cookies may prevent sign-in. Clearing browser storage does not erase records already held by the Service.
When enabled, optional Google Analytics helps us understand navigation and product discovery. It may use first-party cookies and send page and event information to Google. Our integration omits account email, private form values and payment credentials, and removes private identifiers and unapproved query parameters from the page information it sends. Browser privacy signals are respected.
Optional analytics is separate from publisher traffic reports. With the default consent setting it starts only after you allow it. You can change your choice here; declining stops future optional analytics and clears accessible Google Analytics cookies, but does not erase information already processed by Google.
5. Service providers and external websites
Information may be processed by providers supporting hosting, storage, authentication, email delivery and payments, to the extent needed for those functions. Processing locations depend on the providers used. Information may also be disclosed when required by applicable law or necessary to investigate abuse and protect the Service.
Google handles its sign-in flow under its Privacy Policy. When purchases are enabled, Stripe hosts checkout and handles payment details under its Privacy Policy. The Service stores payment references and status rather than full card numbers or card security codes.
Product websites are operated by their respective publishers. Their privacy practices apply after you follow an external link.
6. Retention and your controls
We retain information as needed to maintain your account and listings, fulfill orders, handle refunds, prevent abuse and meet applicable recordkeeping obligations. Retention depends on the type of record; deleting a listing does not necessarily remove related transaction, security or audit records.
You can manage your submissions in Your products. Unpublished drafts can be deleted when reservations and outstanding transaction activity have been resolved. Draft deletion removes access to that draft; shared uploads and related records may remain.
You can sign out or remove the Google connection in your Google Account settings. Disconnecting Google does not delete your Product Updates account, listings or transaction history. Account erasure is not currently available as a self-service action. Any rights you have under applicable privacy law are unaffected by these interface limitations.
7. Policy updates
We may update this policy as the Service changes. The date above identifies the latest revision. Material changes will be explained through the Service, with additional notice or consent where required.
For rules governing submissions and promotions, see the Terms of Service.
